Can I earn tier points for a pre-installed tracking device with one of the approved tracking companies?

Yes, if it is a device with telematics or driving-behaviour monitoring capability.

What is a vehicle tracking device?

A vehicle tracking device is better known as a device with a telematics or driving behavior monitoring capability. A black box fitment or deep fit installation is required. This device has the ability to monitor various usage based behavior in order to give members tier points for said driving behaviour.

What is a vehicle driving score?

This is a score which is calculated using vehicle usage parameters which the Sanlam Group deems as important for the safety and security of the driver and vehicle. The vehicle usage parameters are:

  • The speed you drive at especially if this is above the speed limit
  • The time driving at night between 22:00 and 04:00
  • The way in which you accelerate and brake
  • The way you take corners

What if I have a deep installed tracking device with a telematics functionality that is switched off?

You will only earn 667 points per month (8 000 points per annum) for having the deep installed tracking device. You will not earn an additional potential 1000 points per month (12 000 per annum) for the vehicle driving score.

What vehicle driving score will I get if I have zero kilometres driven in a month with a vehicle that has a vehicle tracking device with telematics capability switched on?

You will earn a 1000 points as per the excellent category because you have not exposed either yourself or your vehicle to the risk of driving. You will also earn 667 points for having a deep installed tracking device.

What vehicle driving score will I get if I have two or more vehicles registered in my name?

You will receive the average of the total points for these vehicles which you own and that have a deep installed telematics device.

Will I get vehicle tracking tier points if I do NOT have a Santam policy as a single member or at least one Santam policy in a family membership?

No, you need a qualifying a Santam policy to qualify for these points.

Do I need a specific type of vehicle tracking device to earn points?

Yes, you need a deep fit installed vehicle tracking device with driving behaviour monitoring capability or a limited telematics capability. A vehicle tracking device that is purely based on Radio Frequency technology for the purposes of theft and recovery alone, will be excluded from earning tier points.

How is the vehicle driving score calculated?

The vehicle driving score is calculated based on parameters set for each tracking company that participates in the Sanlam Reality program.

How do I upgrade my vehicle tracking device to enable me to earn points for a vehicle driving score?

You need to contact your tracking company and enquire about their tracking services. Sanlam Reality will not be held liable for the type of device or the tracking services provided by your tracking company. The following tracking companies participate in the program:

How do I install a vehicle tracking device?

Your tracking company will arrange for a deep installation of a suitable vehicle tracking device. Sanlam Reality will not be held liable for the type of device or the tracking services provided by your tracking company. The following tracking companies participate in the program:

Which tracking companies participate in the tier points for vehicle tracking and driving score for Sanlam Reality customers with Santam products?

The following four tracking companies have been approved with the assistance of Santam:

How do I know that Sanlam Reality is keeping my vehicle tracking information safely?

You have given Sanlam Reality permission to obtain personal information when you joined the Sanlam Reality programme. This allows Sanlam Reality to use specific data from strategic partners for the purpose of managing benefits, administering the program and allocating tier points.  Please review our Privacy Policy and Security terms and conditions on our website.

Will Santam use my tracking information to assess any potential vehicle claims or adjust my insurance premium?

No, Santam is not using tracking information shared with Sanlam Reality to assess your vehicle claims or adjust your insurance premium. Sanlam Reality is simply rewarding you for taking care of your vehicle and for safe diving behaviour by allocating tier points for a vehicle tracking device and score.

What happens if I cancel my Santam policy?

You will not earn telematics points in the month that your Santam policy has been cancelled or for any other month where your Santam policy was inactive.

Annual Vehicle Inspection

Which membership options qualify?

This benefit applies to all Sanlam Reality members, including Reality Plus, Core and Club. However, only Sanlam Reality members with a Santam personal insurance policy can earn tier points for completing the vehicle inspection.

What does the vehicle inspection cost?

The cost of the annual vehicle inspection is R95. Sanlam Reality members also get 2.5% discount on all products purchased at participating Tiger Wheel & Tyre and Tyres & More stores.

How do I earn tier points for completing an annual vehicle inspection?

Your vehicle will be inspected in four categories: mechanical and safety check (engines, shocks, brakes); vehicle tyre check (tyre tread, pressure, wheel nuts etc); vehicle body check (lights, mirrors, wipers); vehicle security check (smash and grab, tracking immobiliser). Depending on the results of the inspection, you will earn tier points for each category: 2 500 points for an excellent’ response, 2 000 points for an good response and 1 000 points for a poor response.

How will Sanlam Reality get my vehicle inspection results?

Participating Tiger Wheel & Tyre and Tyres & More stores will send this directly through to Sanlam Reality after your inspection has been completed.

When will my tier points reflect?

You will be able to review your tier points in the month after your vehicle inspection has taken place.

What happens to my points when I change membership option?

When you move from one tiered option to another (ie Reality Core to Reality Plus) your points and tier status will remain in place. Should you move to a non-tiered option such as Reality Club, you will forfeit all points accrued up to that point.

How do I earn tier status points?

There are a number of ways to earn tiering points in the following categories:

  • Your Wealth Sense engagement (tools, calculators, quizzes and more)
  • Your health and fitness activities (gym visits, sports events and more)
  • Your membership programme activity (registration, updated details, membership option changes and special offers)
  • Your total Sanlam portfolio

Where can I see how many points I’ve earned?

Once you are logged in to the Sanlam Reality website, your tiering status and points earned will appear in a side panel on the right-hand side of the page. It will also show you how many points you still need to earn to move up to the next tier status the following year.

How is my tier status calculated?

Your tier status is calculated by earning points throughout a calendar year. At the end of the calendar year, the points you have earned in that year will determine your tier status (Bronze, Silver or Gold) for the following year. The table below indicates the points needed to move up the tiering table.

The first calendar year for tiering will be from 1 October 2015 to 31 December 2016; thereafter the programme will calculate points over a 12-month calendar year (ie 1 January 2017 to 31 December 2017).

From 1 October 2015 to 31 December 2016, all existing Reality Plus members will automatically be allocated to the Silver tier status and all existing Reality Core members will automatically be allocated to the Bronze tier status. All new members who join the programme from 1 October 2015 will be allocated to the Bronze tier regardless of their membership option.
