Sanlam Reality and Sanlam Group have both acted quickly to bring relief to those in need in South Africa during the COVID-19 pandemic, from small businesses who are suffering to communities who are starving. Here’s what we’ve been doing to help.

Sanlam Reality donates R1 million to Meals on Wheels to aid COVID-19 relief efforts

While Sanlam Reality members experience limited use of their programme benefits during the COVID-19 lockdown measures, Sanlam Reality is taking this opportunity to direct its resources in support of NGO Meals on Wheels, on behalf of members. Sanlam Reality has donated
R1 million to Meals on Wheels, which provides food relief to communities in need across South Africa.

Sanlam Reality’s R1 million donation will provide 50 000 meals in the form of food packages to South Africans struggling to feed themselves and their families during this difficult time. “The packs will include dry foods, basic supplies and, where possible, cooked meals. Under normal circumstances, Meals on Wheels delivers over 31 million meals per annum through 700 distribution points in South Africa. The organisation has been selected as a partner that can cater for the wide-ranging needs of communities throughout the country and we are proud to support it in this unprecedented time in helping our grassroots communities,” says Sanlam Reality’s chief executive, André Larisma.

“Our members are not able to travel or enjoy their entertainment benefits during these difficult times, so we have decided to support this great initiative on behalf of our members. All South Africans are experiencing challenges to a varying degree as a result of the lockdown and we know many people will have little savings to fall back on for even their basic needs. We hope this donation will make their lives a little easier.”

Sanlam pledges R1 billion to COVID-19 business relief efforts with the Motsepe Family

Our world is being tested. Our kindness and our patience, tested. Our resolve and our self-discipline, tested. Our hospitals, medical workers and emergency personnel, are all being tested.

In the face of this incredibly testing and unique global challenge, Sanlam remains committed to doing whatever we can to support our people and protect our economy. By financially backing initiatives that are working to combat the impact of the Coronavirus pandemic, we’re helping South Africa deal with the challenges we face today while building a sustainable tomorrow.

Where will the R1 billion go?

We’re kicking off plans for quality education, infrastructure and equipment improvements in the hardest hit communities across South Africa, but right now our primary goal is to save lives and slow down the virus. Immediate funds are focused on making these essential resources available:

  • Purchasing sanitisers, disinfectants, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Water tanks, boreholes and sanitary facilities in poor rural and urban communities.

Says Sanlam’s CEO, Ian Kirk: “We’ve got a rich history of always putting our people, clients and country first; hence our mantra of ‘Doing well, by doing Good’. We believe these efforts will make a meaningful contribution towards securing a sustainable future for our country. We are doing our bit South Africa, please do yours.”
